rivalry weekend -7 +/-

Last Saturday, I saw two excellent college football games that went down to the wire. One was an upset and the other was a favored team going into a hostile stadium and beating a program with a great winning tradition.

unranked yellow jackets defeat overrated hurricanes

In the interest of full disclosure, I hate every single football program in the state of Florida. Therefore, it was with great pleasure that I watched a surprising Georgia Tech defense hold on to defeat Miami. After a rather boring defensive struggle, in the last few minutes Hurricanes quarterback Kyle Wright was pressured and threw into coverage. A predictable interception by Georgia Tech’s Dennis Davis ended the game. A great game, but not nearly as good as Ohio State versus Michigan. As an aside, Texas A&M should consider hiring Jon Tenuta after they fire Carl Torbush.

This was a classic rivalry game. The score remained close throughout the game with the teams swapping the lead. On the Buckeye’s final drive Michigan’s number 45 missed tackling a scrambling Troy Smith, who then threw into coverage, and Anthony Gonzalez made a superlative leaping catch for the first down. On the next play, Antonio Pittman ran to the left side for the game winning touchdown.
