Another year, another season opening loss to a second rate team, another call from Propeller Skies to fire the coach. At least it was close this time. Of course, Dennis Franchione and the Texas A&M Aggies could redeem themselves by trying something new this year - beating TU, for example.

Totally. Especially since a touchdown was called back for holding. A well coached team would not have made that mistake.
erik wagner says:
Where to start with Coach Fran? The idiotic two point conversion call in the fourth quarter of the Clemson game, allowing 31 points against TSU or needing overtime at *home* against Baylor? This is not looking like the progress that Franchione is supposed to be making now in his third season. This is not looking like a moving forward season.
J Jenkins says:
Smoove D and Erik Wagner,
If I remember right, last spring’s recruiting class was only the second one that is truly Franchione’s. Give the man a chance, will ‘ya? They’re extremely young, especially on defense. If Aggie fans jump on the “fire Fran” bandwagon this early, who would blame him for jumping ship for greener pastures?
Big Bama Fan says:
Ya’ll wanted him! You got him!
B the Aggie 06 says:
Well, if Fran would sub Reggie when he plays terrible then we would have a chance. Ty has an accurate arm, but no one would know because Reggies in the spotlight.
3rd Gen Ag says:
Give the man a chance, huh? What about R.C. Slocum, whose worst season ever was 6-6, had a winning Big 12 record, including 1 championship. He also only got a zero score in 2 conference games (and even those two didn’t combine for more than 49 points) and beat 4 top-5 teams in 6 years including beating a #2 and a #1 team in the same year. The guy recruits Reggie McNeal and goes 8-3 in one year, then falls to 6-6 the next year and deserves no chance? Please! Look at Joe Paterno and tell me you can’t afford to give a guy more than a couple of years. Hell, look at Mack Brown! Slocum wasn’t the best coach, but he was a lot better than average, even for division I-A. He got replaced by an average but lucky coach whose luck has run out.
Smoove D says:
I hear you. I’ll admit to wishing R.C. Slocum would retire after his 6-6 season, but he was a damn good coach. The season he beat Nebraska (the aforementioned #2) at Kyle Field was my first year at A&M. Franchione did all right last year, but this year his luck certainly has run out. After the Colorado game, I’m bracing myself for an extremely disappointing season.

Smoove, it would be best to try to ignore what happens to A&M football under Dennis Fraudchione. He will get a number of decent wins every now and then - enough to keep his job. Then, something more interesting will come along, and he will bolt for another school. To lose to Clemson, a mid-low tier ACC school with below average talent and coaching, is embarrassing.
